Baltimore Metropolitan Council Selects PRR for Public Outreach Campaign to Promote Traffic Safety in Region

WASHINGTON, DC (November 20, 2007) — The Baltimore Metropolitan Council (BMC) recently selected PRR, a Seattle and Washington D.C.-based public affairs, marketing and communications firm to develop a comprehensive public outreach and education campaign for the Baltimore region to improve safety and reduce vehicle-related fatalities and injuries.

The campaign involves the City of Annapolis, Baltimore City, and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford and Howard counties. These local governments will work collaboratively to develop and implement strategies aimed at promoting traffic safety programs throughout the region.

The effort is supported by the region's elected officials, the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board and the Baltimore Metropolitan Council. It supports Maryland's Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP), a statewide traffic safety plan that provides the framework for reducing highway fatalities and serious injuries on all public streets and highways.

"Last year there were more than 240 vehicle-related fatalities in the Baltimore region," said Harford County Executive David R. Craig, the BMC Chair. "Our goal for this regional safety campaign is to reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities through increased awareness among the key audiences responsible for a large percentage of these incidences."

"PRR brings to our project a wealth of transportation-related successes as well as public outreach campaigns that have helped change behavior. I am confident the result of our campaign will be better informed drivers and a much safer region," added Larry W. Klimovitz, BMC's Executive Director.

"We are delighted to have been selected for this important regional traffic safety campaign," said Rita Brogan, PRR CEO. "This campaign builds on so many of PRR's strengths in changing behavior through education and public outreach. Our firm was created to help make our communities better and safer places to live."
