Energy Star

By 2015, the number of consumer electronics products in each home is expected to rise by 35 percent. According to the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), 75 percent of all electricity used to power consumer electronics is consumed while the products are turned off. ENERGY STAR qualified models use up to 60 percent less energy in the 'off' position than any conventional equivalent.

For more than four years, PRR has worked with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agencys (EPA) ENERGY STAR program and partner manufacturers, retailers and utilities nationwide to increase consumer awareness and understanding about the benefits of ENERGY STAR qualified CE products and the impact they have on the home and environment. Through various media relations tactics including national consumer long-lead magazines, newspapers, targeted broadcast and print outreach, Satellite Media Tours (SMTs), Radio Media Tours (RMTs), and high-profile media events in cities across the country with former EPA Administrator Whitman, PRR garnered extensive national and local media coverage resulting in more than 38 million impressions and over $2,900,600 in media value. Stories about the environmental benefits associated with purchasing ENERGY STAR qualified CE products were placed in select publications and online media outlets such as HOME, Real Simple, House & Garden, Mens Health, Popular Mechanics, Organic Style, Natural Home, MSN.com, Salon.com, the Boston Globe, Orlando Sentinel, Cleveland Plain Dealer, Detroit Free Press and the Chicago Tribune. PRR also secured stories about ENERGY STAR qualified products on NBC's "Today" show, ABC's "The View" and an in-depth story about power management on National Public Radio (NPR). Local shopping events were coordinated with the Administrator in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Orlando, Puerto Rico, Chicago, and Philadelphia.
