I'm the invoice wrangler, which means I track people down to verify incoming invoices for approvals and processing. I love the PRR work environment and how it represents the company values: relaxed yet professional, collaborative, and friendly to all! It's a place where there is opportunity and encouragement to grow (makes me smile). Outside of the office, I help others through spiritual coaching. Sometimes my own spiritual coaching means a day at the spa!

As a Community Engagement Coordinator in the Seattle Office, I maintain a dynamic schedule across several transportation and environment projects. My passion is working with clients to best communicate project benefits to community members, especially those who don’t regularly learn about public projects in their area. Nothing makes me happier than seeing someone who previously knew very little about a project be so thrilled about what they've learned that they want to share it with their friends and family. As a dedicated enthusiast of healthy, accessible built environments, I have traveled to cities around the country and across the world to learn about how different policies and projects have made a difference in the lives of the residents. In my free time, I love to explore the never-ending beauty of the Pacific Northwest, and when I'm not outside I will be eagerly planning my next adventure!

Community Engagement
At PRR, I focus on building genuine connections between communities and the projects that shape both their environments and daily lives. I am deeply interested in the relationship between people and places: how changes in our surroundings influence the way we connect, shape our sense of belonging, and affect our overall well-being. Growing up in Seattle, surrounded by evolving neighborhoods and natural landscapes, shaped how I understand this connection and inspired my commitment to community-centered work. When I’m not working, you’ll probably find me skiing down a mountain, heading to trivia nights with friends, or fiddling with my film camera trying to capture a good shot of my dog Bennie who’s the real star of the show.

I support our machine of a Business Development team to make sure we stay on track and organized. The people at PRR make it easy to show up to work each day because the talent, passion, and kindness is inspiring. We care about our work and we care about the communities we serve. Outside of work, you might find me at UW football games (go Dawgs!) or spending as much time as possible with my dog.

I like to think of myself as a perspective translator and a shared vision detective. At PRR, I put these skills to use as the communications team lead for WSDOT’s Puget Sound Gateway Megaprogram. This means I get to work with an integrated team of planners, contractors, environmental scientists, communicators, outreach specialists, and more to help extend their vision to a variety of audiences across the Puget Sound region. Before joining PRR, I spent a decade applying my perspective translator (and sometimes actual translator) skills in the field of public health, as a program manager and then external relations director for a center of the University of Washington’s Department of Global Health. As such, I am a lifelong advocate for health equity and a newly minted champion of the benefits of a multimodal and inclusive built environment. When I’m not DIY-ing at home (for better or for worse), you should probably look for me on a ski slope, SCUBA diving, or researching a vacation where I can somehow manage to do both.

Community Engagement
Whether facilitating community-led initiatives or amplifying underrepresented voices, I believe that meaningful connection is the foundation for lasting change. With more than three years of experience in community engagement, I combine my strong communications background and deep passion for educational equity and public policy to every project. My academic journey has shaped the way I approach strategy, storytelling, and stakeholder collaboration. Born in Cuba and navigating life as an immigrant, I understand the importance of inclusive, culturally responsive engagement. I'm especially driven by opportunities to bridge diverse communities, and I’m committed to helping clients in both the public and private sectors connect authentically with the people they serve. Being bilingual in English and Spanish allows me to create more equitable, accessible spaces for dialogue and partnership. Outside of work, when I'm not visiting family either in Chicago or Miami, you’ll probably find me at the golf range or catching up with friends—always looking for new ways to stay grounded, inspired, and connected.

My role at PRR exists to give guidance, strategy, and project management support to our clients through the delivery work products that maximize public involvement for a variety of initiatives. What I love most about my job is the ability to see a project through to completion. I hope that my work ensures that community voices are heard. Outside of my work, I am most proud of my travel experiences. I have lived in four states and traveled to 15 countries. My favorite way to travel is on a cruise ship. If I could spend my entire life on a cruise ship, I think I would do it. I love trying new foods, attending concerts and shows, and exploring new destinations.

I act as an extension of my clients and am committed to engaging and educating the communities they serve. My work includes the planning and execution of events and public engagement for projects across our sectors. I am thrilled to work for such an innovative company, with a great team of socially responsible change-makers! In my free time, I enjoy volunteering, participating in young professional groups, and taking my cats for walks in their stroller around Capitol Hill.

By day, I’m a civic innovator, specializing in human-centered design and strategic communications for the public sector. As a Social Marketing Account Manager at PRR, I work with our clients to help them effectively connect, communicate, and engage with their customers and constituents through strategic communications and marketing. I use a human-centered focus to develop marketing and communications materials that reach our client’s audiences where they are. Using experience-design informed methods, I help PRR’s clients create positive public impact through marketing strategies, community engagement, and workshop facilitation. By night, I'm a travel content creator and planner, sharing my experiences with local communities across the world and helping others to have those experiences too. On my travel blog, discoverwithsam.com, I explore and highlight social impact travel experiences, find local hidden gems, and support small businesses. I love helping people experience the world through a connection to the local wherever they are.

I help connect people with the projects planned in their communities so that their values, concerns, and priorities are considered and reflected in the outcome. Engagement looks different with every community and every project, but my day-to-day generally involves a lot of writing – e-newsletters, stories, postcards – and listening, whether at project open houses or community listening sessions. By connecting with people through this work, I feel connected to – and engaged with – what’s going on in my own community. I also really love learning about things I wouldn’t otherwise, like how a water main gets replaced or how neighborhood systems function behind the scenes. I’m passionate about walkable cities, and I’m an avid pedestrian. My favorite way to get to know a place is to walk around it, ideally with an audiobook playing and a couple stops to check out local coffee shops and restaurants.

As a visual designer, I’m excited to dive into interesting projects at PRR and learn more about the role of design within government channels. Exploring how design intersects with areas like transportation and community outreach is especially intriguing. I love graphic design because it’s the perfect intersection of art and strategy. Even when creating art for myself, I strive to infuse it with a theme, a metaphor, or an overarching idea, giving it deeper meaning. What excites me most is working on something creative every day, using knowledge and research to piece together a cohesive and meaningful design. One of my favorite activities outside of work is playing Dungeons & Dragons with friends. At its core, D&D is about a group of people coming together, each with a character which acts as a set of personal parameters, to create a collaborative story. It’s your job to not only know your character but be open to learning about others while simultaneously navigating challenging questions and solving difficult problems together. I truly value the soft skills this experience has given me, especially when working on projects that involve multiple voices and perspectives. I also love reading fantasy novels, drawing/painting, and gaming.

As a Research Analyst, I work with data and conduct analysis with an eye toward building structures to support work in the long term. I support analysis and reporting, particularly for projects with strong quantitative elements, and develop resources to strengthen data processing and analysis across PRR’s Research team. At PRR, I have the freedom to ask meaningful questions and to think critically about the work we do. Outside of work, I'm a founding member of the youth leadership team at a local community organization where I facilitate a monthly discussion group for teens and young adults. When I’m not working or volunteering, I’m often going to medieval reenactment events, practicing medieval sword-fighting, competing in armored combat tournaments, researching and performing early music, and spending time with my family.

Vision statement of anti-racism.

An anti-racist PRR dismantles systems of advantage based on race when and wherever possible. We engage staff of all racial identities in dismantling white supremacy culture at work. This  includes personal ideologies, beliefs, and behaviors. And, it includes removing white supremacy culture from the systems, cultural messages, institutional policies, procedures, and practices that PRR and our staff interact with and inform. We believe it is not enough to be “not racist.” We must be “anti-racist.”
